I thought it was rather interesting that they advertise it as a daywear jacket, but it has the type of buttons most commonly used for evening wear.

Any chance you could put on your planned outfit and give us photo of the ensemble? I'd like to see what this jacket looks like in the context you are describing.

The barathea argyle's real purpose is formal daywear( formal morning dress) and the silver buttons are quite normal when used in such circumstances. The fact that the jacket can be used for minor formal evening(black tie) events is a happy circumstance.

Nice to see that the kilt jacket is correctly described by the advertisers.

The green colour would probably look alright if worn to an evening event. However if you are going to spend your money on a do-it-all evening dress jacket, can I seriously suggest a black PC rather than your first choice.

I haven't picked up anything for the ensemble yet. I'm strictly wearing smart day wear at this point (or smart casual if it's hot enough).

I do have a tux shirt and a black bow tie but those are standard regardless of jacket.

Maybe something like this but pretend the jacket is dark green:

I get the impression you're telling me that I could wear the green but shouldn't. I'm just trying to understand the shouldn't part. Maybe tell me what your impression would be if you saw another guest at a dinner wearing a green argyle with black tie? And you're welcome to be frank. I know sometimes people get prickly when their ideas are objected to but I really want to know.

I used to wear a green velvet Sheriffmuir in my youth and it was very smart and I loved it! It was for far more formal events though.

I even wear a green velvet Argyll at home.........I don’t venture out these days........on occasion, when we dress for dinner so it’s not that I don’t like green. I just happen to think that a green barathea argyll does not look as effective as a black barathea argyll does. As I have already said, it looks as you are trying too hard to be different in the wrong circumstances. That is all. What you decide to do is entirely your choice.
