Yes, obviously the star is for our Lone Star State status (and matches our flag). My point was that the casual observer would probably just see this as a US flag tie, and not necessarily connect it to Texas specifically. It's an ongoing conundrum with any Texas-related merchandise. It either needs to look recognisably like the Texas flag (only one star, one red stripe, one white stripe), or have some other identifier for Texas. Otherwise it just looks like the usual US flag stuff.

Of course, I do have a tie tack in the shape of Texas, so maybe that would set it off.

The first thing I thought of was an election, not Texas. Perhaps it needed a larger star? Example, from one of Texas best:

I'm glad to see my birth state of North Carolina but understand why they will have trouble with my adopted state of Mississippi and its flag.

Let us leave the controversy of opinions to others outside of this forum on that issue.

When I looked over those, and the California tie is a prime example, I notice that the ties aren't based on the flags of the states, but rather the various State logos placed on utterly random ties.

What I mean is that the California flag has no blue, but inexplicably the California tie is blue.



And, by the way, the California flag has its very own Lone Star

For my home state I found this vintage tie on Ebay. (Perhaps not an option for The Rectangle States.)

All-over patterns have also long been worn with Highland Dress (usually Clan Crest ties but other motifs as well).

I mentioned it in a previous comment but I believe that they went with blue because a dominantly white tie with a small amount of red probably wouldn’t look very good. Maybe a bit like a candy cane. That said, I don’t really love the Californian tie they have but may buy one of the other styles.

Also, some of the ties do use the all over pattern style. The Alaskan tie has little Ursa Major constellations on a navy field.

They also have ties based on the flags of some nations (including the ones where most Xmarkers live: the US, UK, Australia, and Canada).
