Also, if your price range is around $100 or less, and that is what you are finding on Amazon, they will be made from acrylic. Even if they say it is acrylic wool it is still synthetic and not a wool blend. I would really suggest that you think about a USA Kilts Casual kilt to start out with. It will be in PV from Marton Mills, which is a harder finish/smoother fabric than a wool or acrylic wool fabric, but they look great and wear well. It will also let you get it made to your personal measurements. And all for $99.99.
Exactly what I needed! Thank You!

Should my kilt hang below or above my knee?
To the point of your weightlifting, you may have a larger difference between your waist size and hip size than standard. Off-the-rack kilts usually use a standard difference of 4", but that may not work for you. I'd definitely get that measuring tape out and get something made to order.

As for how long, you will want to measure from where you plan to wear your kilt on the waist to where you'd like the kilt to fall. The middle of the kneecap to slightly above the knee is common. I personally like mine an inch above the knee to help keep cool, but some of my kilts go to mid-knee.

I can attest to that. My hip measurement is 9 inches larger than my waist because of weight lifting. It causes the pleats to pucker out at the end of the fell. You can live with it if it is 1 or 2 inches small, but 5 or 6 inches would be too much.

Yeah, I think I'm definitely going to have to get a customized kilt
