Tartan Utility Kilt

Hello all, I’m new to the forum but not to kilts. All my kilts are from utkilts, and I have a combination of wool, acrylic, and poly-cotton (traditional and utility). I’m looking for a higher quality kilt- specifically a modern/utility kilt in a tartan. I have seen Angry Bastards “Heretic” kilt, as well as Freedom Kilt’s offering. I like having “slash” or “jean” pockets, and side cargos as wel. Any experience with makers who build kilts that fit this description, or experience with the two makers listed above? Well met and welcome new friend. I don't have experience with the kilt makers listed above - except that if they advertise here, members have used their products and will attest to the quality of the products. I hope you find the perfect kilt that fits all your criteria. Glad to have you with us.

To the OP, Steelkilt - While Freedom Kilts are certainly capable and willing to make the kilt you describe, and have done so, we are not going to be the same as what you have previously purchased, from UT Kilts or Angry Bastard.

Freedom kilts are truly bespoke kiltmakers. All of our kilts are made, by us, right here in our shop. We do not purchase product from others and re-sell it.
We call ourselves 'bespoke' because each customer has total control over every aspect of their kilt. There is very little "standard' about a bespoke garment.
While I am not trying to talk you out of having a custom made kilt, Freedom Kilts are not going to be in the same price range as the sellers you mention.

Freedom Kilts specialize in kilts in the Contemporary style. While we have made MUGS and the Utility style garments it is not what we are known for. We are the developers of the Contemporary style kilt and say that our product is - "A kilt that has evolved to suit the needs of today's kilt wearer."

We build a kilt that is designed to be very durable. We would like our product to last for many years of daily wear. This means that we include the full floating interfacing and stabilizer that are the hallmark of the Iconic kilt instead of the MUG and Utility styles where the overall strength of the garment is derived from the strength of the fabric and stitching.
A Freedom Kilt is "Kilt Made" while a MUG and Utility style garments are "Jeans Made".

Our kilts are designed from the ground up to have the swish, and fit of a custom made garment. While the height of the waist and the placement of the selvedge at the knee can be where ever the customer specifies, the fit and look will be, overall, more dressy in appearance.
Our pleats will not take the outward curl that many MUG wearers prefer.

We are very seldom are asked to make kilt with the Reverse Kinguisse style of pleating that is usually associated with the MUG and Utility styles.

While most of the kilts we sew are made from premium kilt wool we also offer Tartan fabrics woven from a blend of 65% Polyester/35% Rayon. This fabric is quite a bit different from the Acrylic and Acrylic blends you may be familiar with.

And while we are capable of putting as many pockets into a kilt as the customer needs and wants, (The most pockets we have ever put in a single kilt was 22) most of our customers prefer that the Tartan pattern in the pleating is not broken up by the placement of external pockets.
