If it's a work event, following the day at the office, and a business suit would be appropriate, then I think your regular argyll (tweed or otherwise) and waistcoat would work fine with whatever sporran you wore that day. If it's not a black tie or otherwise formal event, I see no need for a fancier than daywear sporran. I have often worn a black daywear sporran with my tweeds to an evening event that was nicer than "pub night" but not a formal black-tie affair.

Were it me, this is the outfit I'd pick. Most likely there would be some tweaks to it though.
I wore this to a friend's mother's memorial a few months ago. I would perhaps change the sporran to a plain black leather one instead of the semi-dress one I have, photo below of the same jacket etc with plain black sporran.
As for the Argyll jacket I know you said black argyll with silver buttons, to my mind though, a tweed like this one works better. here is a photo of the same outfit but with the black argyll, really either way is fine but personally I prefer the tweed, of course it is a bit cooler in the black barathea.

Since a tweed is still not happening for me any time soon, I'll take the silver-buttoned option and I agree that the silver-mounted tassels on the fur-fronted semi-dress sporran look great in that configuration and not overdressed for office wear. I think that's a good option for me. Thanks, all!
