    British Army Spats size

    Good day all,
As a piper, I have as of late begun to build a No 1 dress ensemble, and as such require spats. I have read that the only spats worth wearing are the ones that do up exclusively with buttons, ie, no Velcro. To this end I have been looking into surplus British Army spats (Gaiters,Highland). My question is, what size is likely to fit me best, having size 10 feet and average calves?
You see, the Gaiters, Highland use a unique sizing system which goes from size 1 to size 9, whereas most civilian spats just use shoe size.
I wear size 4 naval gaiters (WWII style anklets) if that helps.
    Thanks!

    British Army spat size

McCracken have you thought about e-mailing the Army School of Piping and Drumming - they have a face book account you might be able to ask there and get the answer your looking for. You could try kilt maker Robert MacDonald of west coast kilts in Vancouver Canada. Having spent a career in the Seaforth Highlanders of Canada he might be able to help you or at least direct you to someone who could help you.

Hope this helps - good luck

*facepalm* I should have thought of that, I’m buddies with Mr MacDonald’s apprentice, Noah.
    Thanks for all the suggestions!

    Update

Update: I talked with Noah, and he said that although the British Army spats are superior, for most people it’s better to just cheap out, at the rate the average piper goes through spats.
    Thanks anyways for your help!
