Per instructions I received early in my kilt-wearing days, I leave that lower strap quite loose. Thanks again for sharing your expertise.

Today the lower strap is at the hip and is purely decorative. It is not designed to cinch the kilt on and should be fastened quite loose. Otherwise you will more than likely pull and pucker the apron.

On my kilts the lower strap is mounted forward of the upper straps so that even if fastened on the same hole it is not tight.

But yes, if the lower strap is coming un-stitched, it can just be sewn back on. There is not normally anything inside the kilt to anchor it to.

    Rkilts

One of the best kiltmakers around for my money is Robert Pel from Rkilts, in Stratford ON, Canada. He'll get you fitted up in a great utility kilt! The best detailing I have ever seen.

Has anyone heard anything from Robert Pell lately? He posted back in November of 2017 that he was quiting kiltmaking. His facebook page is no longer active and his webste appears to be down.
