The official way

Recently when attending a rowdy event I was asked by an attractive young lady if I knew the official way to discover if a kilted man was going regimental or not. I offered an idea or two oft discussed here and each she rejected, asking after each rejection if I knew the official way. Finally I gave up and she officiated, leaning forward in her seat and starting at my knee, slid her hand up the outside of my thigh until she had reached just high enough to discover an answer. Being beyond old enough to be her father, and flattered to have a lassie's attention, and at an event not intended for the bashful, I didnt protest. Besides, I was cursious to learn the official way to answer The Question.

Afterward she explained it is official to only slide a hand up the outside of a kilt wearer's thigh. Any other route is unofficial.

Now that you know the official way to discern the answer brothers you can be on your guards. Learn from my sacrifice and do not submitt to such indignity, unless of course you are feeling rowdy.

I certainly don't have the answers to all the questions and am willing to learn (even if the response surprises me). At my age, if a young lass wanted to teach me something that may alarm me, I would direct her to my wife for permission. I must sacrifice the thrill and yield to prudence and civility (avoiding the wrath of my wife in the process).

But now through your experience, I know something I didn't before.

NO! and should not be anywhere people consider other's feelings (independent of the law). The world just happens to contain levels of morality that stems from acceptable/unacceptable environments. He did mention the rowdy nature of the gathering.

While my wife would certainly not approve either I can understand your giving the attractive young lady a pass at teaching you something. It seemed to fit the theme of the event you were attending as well.

Benning School for Wayward Boys Class of 1985, they must have added wayward somewhere in between.

I believe that many of the members here are rather appalled that so many people think nothing of saying/doing things to a kilted man that would lead to arrest if directed at a woman in a skirt.

However, recognizing that such boorishness exists and hoping to respond with wit rather than fisticuffs, many of us have explored "snappy answers to stupid questions" about our underwear.

And yes, there are circumstances and people that might make one receptive to an inquiry that would be offensive otherwise.

But I don't think the Rabble are hung up on "going commando," so much as we are all faced with the obsession the idea seems to inspire among many members of the non-kilted public.

In my own twisted mind, the legitimacy of the thing depends in part on whether any sort of "invitation" either explicit or implicit has been given. Wearing the kilt is not in or of itself any kind of invitation. Comments such as "Good girls don't ask and bad girls find out for themselves" could easily be considered an invitation.

We could be cautious then, lest our comments or facial expressions might be considered an invitation.

I would (and have) taken a similar approach, which generally deflects without offense. I don't offer invitations.
I think this is common across the forum, though some choose sarcasm or take offense.

I think had such (and similar) uninvited queries been against the law in other times, there would be far fewer of us
available to participate in this or any other forum. Taking myself a bit lightly allows me to avoid offense, and as a
result, I smile more and frown less.
