Thanks, Glen, but I have talked with Barb Tewksbury and she recommended against it. I know next-to-nothing about kilt-making, so I must go with her when she says I would not be happy with the result. In the case of the Clan Chattan, the heritage/historic value has to be considered, as well. So there are only two alternatives: set them aside for another generation, or lose girth. I'll probably go for the latter. That might just fulfill two fantasies

Barb Tewksbury would be my choice to look at it as well, perhaps you could talk to Andrew Elliott or DC Dalgliesh about a reweave we have used both for the Wildcat Tartan & DC Dalgliesh did the tartan for my Royal Naval Association kilt. I am very pleased with both.

Again, ya'll have taught me many things in a single thread...thanks to you all!

Fantasy kilts...my mind goes crazy just thinking about it! A tartan that could change colors and shades at just the brush of the hand, as if you were flipping thru the edges of a book. One that could be extended by just the slightest tug on the leather straps, to adjust to the perfect line in a sett! Yes, I have a wild imagination!


I also have a number of kilts I'd love to be able to afford, but as of yet...I'm waiting on my 13oz MacAlister Modern, Locharron , pleated to sett, etc.! Along with a tweed waistcoat in a green herring bone, which tends to pull out the green in my MacAlister tartan!


My next will be the franklin district tartan, designed in Franklin,NC at the tartan museum as a local tartan(ITI Number: 6678 ).6678franklin_district_.bmp

Then I'm going to design one pertaining to my patrilineal side of the family going back 6 generations, from Scotland to USA! But, that's a whole different thread!
