How hard can it be, I thought. After 40 hours or so, almost done. Most of the time was working out how to do it left handed!!

When you say left-handed, do you mean figuring out how to do it as a left-handed person, or is there something left-handed about the kilt?

Just having to work out and adjust techniques to suit me as a left handed. The kilt is “proper”, if that’s the word.

On page 46 of the 1st printing of "The Art of Kiltmaking" there is a gray box - Tips & hints: So you're left handed. Well....ummmmmmmmm..

"The news isn't good for those of you who are left handed. Kilt construction by the intstructions in this book is a right-handed process. At the time Elsie apprenticed at Gordon's as a young kiltmaker, in fact, labor laws were different, and left-handed people simply weren't hired as apprentices. The reasons are simple. Pleats in a kilt are asymmetric, and they are always folded toward the right hip and stitched from hip to waist. The direction of stitching can't easily be reversed..."

When I first read this is was livid. How dare someone try to tell me I can't do something.

Well, they can try. So just to prove them wrong ----

The thing is often Legt handers work out how to do things with their right and become far more dextrous with their right hands than right handers are with their left - for example using scissprs with their right because that's how they are shaped to be used...

Though I think there'svarying levelsof 'ambidextrousity' as well...for example being able to do many taskswell with both hands but with writing being far superior with one hands (the naturally dominant) than the other...
