    Simple Stitching Question

I was looking to do a bit of customization on a kilt of mine and was wondering if I could get some tips from the pros. I really want to do a red, raised fist on the apron of my kilt, and I was thinking of just using a red Poly Cotton (same type as kilt) then just sewing it on. My question is what method should I use to create the definition lines to form the fingers? I am really new to sewing (can hardly do buttons) so I don't really know any techniques.

Can you post a photo of something similar to what you have seen that gave you the idea.

I can't really envision what you are describing.
Unless you mean something like this horde symbol that I embroidered on an apron for a customer.

Embroidery is pretty easy to do. It is not having to sew two things together for strength. It is just decoration.

Embroidery on the apron has a long historical association with kilts. This one on a military kilt is totally hand stitched and is over 12" long.

depending on your skill and patience you can stay simple like the horde symbol above or pretty fancy and detailed.

    I wear the kilt because:
    Swish + Swagger = Swoon.

    Machine embroidered patch

You could also find a local that does custom work and have a patch made. Usually not prohibitively expensive and it would be a simple matter to blind stitch to the kilt.

Thanks guys. I was thinking I would like attach a separate cloth for some reason, but the more I think about it, the more sense it makes to just do embroidery. So I've been teaching myself for the last couple days! Complete side note, but I've been walking around Edinburgh the last could days and seen some great kilts, very jealous!
