Congratulations, excellent work on the bag, is it oiled pigskin, just asking as it looks very similar to my Filofax - yep still use one despite laptop, smartphone etc.

Cow hide, about 2mm to 3mm thick and was quite stiff to start with. It’s a lightly dimpled “pull up” leather. The patina and colour should improve greatly with wear and age.

I'm unfamiliar with the term "pull up" leather. Is that a description of its use?

It looks like what we might call chap leather (if on the softer side) or latigo leather (the very thick/stiff kind used to make cinch straps for saddles or other load-bearing tack).

That's a fine looking sporran!

"Pull up leather" is waxed or oiled leather.

The sporran will get its first outing this weekend. I’ll be sure to get a picture!

Very nice job! Interesting to see you using pull-up leather. I'd hesitate to use this type of leather due to the possibility of getting oil-stains on my kilt (been, there done that...but not with a kilt, thankfully). But not all pull-up leathers are created equal - what type of pull-up are you using?

No no problems at all, thank goodness. Bought the leather as an off cut from a local leather producer, who told me it wouldn’t stain. Being a trusting sort, I used an old white pillowcase and spent an evening watching tv and rubbing/polishing the back of the bag - no marks at all!
