I have a weathered brown sporran that they might compliment nicely. I like that style of shoe and wear them with my kilts.

I note Jocks remark about the lacing, I suspect, like me, he laces them as per Arnot's Photo, with the laces straight across.
It being a UK military requirement.. Easy to cut off in an accident...

Oh, I tend to wear plain black Oxfords..

I just had a good look at Arnot’s photo, and I too lace them straight across, BUT I’ve never figured out how to do so with an odd number of eyelets which has restricted me to buying shoes with an even number.

Would someone please enlighten me on how to do it with an odd number? It would double my purchasing options for the future!

    Try this site: https://www.fieggen.com/shoelace/str...peanlacing.htm

You can choose which lacing style you want at the left side of the page, then choose the number of eyelets on the right, and it will show you how to do it.

Thanks Tobus, it does indeed. That double strand bothers me, but I'll have to play with it with the one pair of odd-numbered I have.

    Much appreciated!

Tobus & Bill, I don't think I have ever seen laces threaded the way illustrated. Its certainly not the way I was taught. I am looking for a pair of" five eyed" shoes to make sure, but as long as the laces are long enough then it matters not how many eyes there are for straight laces..........I think.

I agree - there are many ways to skin that proverbial cat. Of the various shoes and boots I have straight-laced, I've only done one in the style on that page (I'm wearing them right now, in fact). More often, I just run one lace from the very bottom all the way to the top eye, with the other end going round and round through the eyelets. I like this version because it's easier to cinch it up towards the bottom eyes, if that makes sense.

Well done Tobus! That is the way I was taught. I was desperately trying to figure out a way of describing what we do------ and failing----- and you have done it perfectly.

Yes, that's the way I do it too. Doesn't work with odd numbered eyelet shoes; you end up with both laces on the same side.
