I am afraid that that sample is nowhere near the shade of brown that McMurdo and I are talking about.
Exactly Jock, the jacket I have is also very difficult to photograph but the colour is unlike any tweed I've ever seen before including my mid-century brown Harris Tweed.
I really posted it as an example of a tweed colour which, as you said, dates back to the 1940s and is probably no longer available. No suggestion of any resemblance to the style of McMurdo's other than a similar, older material and shade.
I am sorry about that Steve. Although from memory, I am not at all sure that I said what you have said I said.
I was born in 1940 so that is as far as my memory goes, I did say, in my first post in this thread, that I recall seeing that hue and that type of cloth at about that time and I did say that I doubted that any jacket that I saw was new and I also said that I thought some of the jackets that I saw could well have started life before 1900. It was that shade of cloth that McMurdo’s new acquisition has that I was meaning, not a post 1940 hue that might well compare with your jacket. Any way, I am sorry if I have not been as clear as I intended.
