    Hi Alan

Not sure I understand - does your kilt have a fringe along the bottom edge??

Anyway, the easiest thing to do is turn up a small hem in the offending parts - that's what should be done in the first place when the kilt is made, actually. For the underapron edge, turn up about an inch at the edge and tape it to nothing about 9" toward the center of the kilt. The result will be the nicest if you take out the underapron edge of the kilt first, but, it will never show, so you could really do it either way. Then, for the offending first pleat, open up the pleat, turn up about 1/2" at the point tapering to nothing where the pleat shows, and stitch a small tapered hem. Simple as that. I wouldn't cut it, although if the kilt really does have a fringed bottom that would indeed by the simplest solution. I've never seen a kilt with a fringe at the bottom!

Just as an aside - if you order my book from Celtic Dragon Press, yours truly will ship it out, because I'm Celtic Dragon Press. I did all the writing, graphics, page layout, photos, etc. and took the whole book on a single CD to a local printer. But, I needed an ISBN, and to get an ISBN, you have to be a publisher. So, in order to publish my book, I needed to become a publisher. One book, but hey!

Let me know if my description of changing the length makes any sense or not.

    Cheers!

Barb, you'll be getting an order from me for your book soon (gotta round up the money first). I've been asked if I'd make kilts for several guys and kilted skirts for several ladies. So far I've balked at doing it for others and handed out cards with makers URLs but lately I'm getting kinda pushed into it. I have no intention of trying to do it for a living and I'd prefer to support the kiltmakers here but there are a few very insistant people around here that don't want to let me off the hook.

    Hi Bubba

Just sent your book off to you yesterday morning. You should have it by the end of the week!
