I tend to wear a pair of Johnston & Murphy lug sole wingtips when kilted. A few coats of Red Wing boot oil darkened mine to a nice chocolate brown, but here's what they looked like new:
I also have a couple of pair of Clark's Montacute Lord boots (in dark tan and charcoal) and a pair of Clark's Montacute Wing shoes which are also comfortable. I'm not sure that they're still making these, but they're still available on eBay:
All have rubber soles.
