A Gaelic musical family
I came across this announcement from the Mod last week which caused me to look up a little bit about his family.

Here is Alasdair singing "Mo Mhathair" - one of the popular old 'weepies' of Gaeldom. (For the Gaelic learners, notice how "mo" lenites the following word And also the transliteration of "Whyte" in the introduction.)

So here is his mother Riona (from Catriona)

singing in praise of Fiunary in Morvern, Argyll where she grew up. (The album name, Bunachas, means root / foundation / ancestry.)

As well as much other work in the fostering of Gaelic, Riona runs "Burach" (=mess/ muddle ! - used in Scots as well)

And here is her brother, Stuart, singing another soppy old favourite (Here are the words)

Can you spot an error in the video titling - hint see above? The photographs from over 100 years of Highland life are a bit twee!

And here's another piece of nostalgia guaranteed to get everyone joining in at a ceilidh - words first.

Don't know why they pretend it's on a scratchy old 78 - is it artistic "days gone by"?. The laddie wandering around the village in Morvern in his jeans and gutties (US sneakers) doesn't wear a kilt. For 200 years, nobody has in the clachan unless they were going off to war. The kilt's just for the gentry - the English laird on his month's visit once a year for the shooting and the Games.
But he's very proud of his family and village roots. Except that he probably can't stay there unless he can get a job on the CalMac ferry or maybe be a gamekeeper or mend the roads. Maybe he should get a degree in Gaelic and become an Ambassador!
By the way, who's that putting out the chairs for Burach's rehearsal for the next Mod?
