New kilt: Volcano tartan!
Comrades,
I'm very excited to say that I've a new kilt in the Volcano tartan, stitched by Barb Tewksbury. As a teacher of the Earth Sciences, I'm nerd-ily interested in those tartans with a science theme. It's a 6-ish yard, knife-pleated kilt with two buckles: one on my outside right hip and the "hidden" one on my left hip. Absolutely gorgeous piece of work and I'm very thankful to Barb for making the kilt and to the tartan designer Dr Carol Martin.

One of the nicest tartans I've ever seen.

At first, I was wondering why you chose to pleat it that way, hiding all the colour. Then I realised that when you walk and the pleats swish, that colour will really flash. Well done.

I have the artistic skill set of an ant so I usually defer to Barb for those decisions. I really like how it works out -- I made a video of me walking away and, indeed, the colour flashes as I walk. Super cool!

So, to add to the uber nerdy-ness here, when the pleats open up, it’s like when the chilled dark crust of a lava flow cracks open to reveal the hot lava underneath or, on a bigger scale, when the surface of black basaltic lavas in Iceland rift open and new hot, incandescent lava is revealed 🤓🤓
