I am sorry for the misunderstanding. The original post made it sound like the new site is cheaper.
The sites are different. Some tartans are available on the old site for some products but not on the new site and vice versa.
In some ways the original site is easier to navigate.
The new site is supposed to be mobile friendly. How many people are going to be shopping for these types of products on mobile phones? That is another topic.

I was browsing for a new Casual kilt in the Lindsay tartan (stalking various sites, filling Shopping Carts with abandon :-)
The old ScotWeb site matches the Essential Scotweb Casual Kilt with Lindsay New Mini tartan in 11oz Polyviscose by "marto" (Marton Mills)
CA$ 170.00 (with -CA$ 19 XMarks discount automatically applied.)
The new Clan site matches the Essential Scotweb Casual Kilt with the same fabric Lindsay (Smibert) (Crawford New) tartan 11oz (Light Weight) (Marton Mills)
CA$ 198.17
So, if I do pull the trigger soon, it will probably be on the old site.
But... if I want the option of upgrading the fabric to the 13oz - Marton Mills Stirling Poly-wool blend and larger sett, it will need to be on the new site, as that fabric isn't in the available selections for that kilt on the old site. And the price goes up to CA$ 235.78 on the new site without discount.
And then I'll need to ask Nick if the XMTS discount can be applied ex post-facto...
So I expect these are just teething issues with the new site, which seems to work well.
Hopefully we'll get a new link in the ScotWeb banner here that will apply the discount on the new site.
I have one grouse with the new site, it no longer lists the weaver in the tartan descriptions. But if you already know the trade names "Stirling", "Jura", etc. you can be fairly sure which is which.
