It's possible that I've not managed to meet every discerning kilt-wearer in Scotland - at least not yet - but I have yet to meet one wearing white hose - by which I mean actual white as opposed to cream or ecru. And for that reason I felt and still feel quite justified in saying that white hose are anathema - but they didn't become anathema - they've always been anathema.
It should be pointed out that the sub-species "discerning kilt-wearer in Scotland" probably does not include children at weddings, nor would it necessarily include every member of the kilt-wearing brigade at Murrayfield, nor would it include many of the actually kilted members of Ally's Tartan Army or their present-day descendants. It's quite possible that these groups wear white hose all the time - if so, they render themselves undiscerning by definition.
