It's one of those Pipe Band things, how all the bands go to contests and see the other bands and say "ooooh that's a nice tartan!" and soon enough there are a dozen bands wearing whatever tartan it is.

So MacLean of Duart has been one of the most popular Pipe Band tartans for many years, probably because two famous bands wear it, Shotts & Dykehead and Triumph Street.

At the World Pipe Band Championships in 2007 it was the most common tartan with 18 bands wearing it.

Seems to me that most of the time it's Weathered, I can't tell from the programme because most bands don't specify which version.
