Greetings from the People's Republic of Massachusetts!
First post. Not new to kilts or wearing them, just took a 50 year hiatus. I danced highland dance a a child, and my Dad played the pipes in the Thistle Guildry Pipe Band in NYC in the 1960's. I recently acquired his kilt, a Thos. Gordon and Sons commercial (non-military contract) one, that I'm guessing is 60+ years old, along with a Lovat green argyle tweed jacket and waistcoat, several hose, flashes, day sporran, bonnets, and boxes of related silver buckles and broaches, bagpipe music, and so on. I'm undertaking some maintenance on the kilt, as it was poorly altered at one point, thankfully only the strap and buckle attachments, and the lining is quite yellow and dirty looking, so I'll make a new lining. I have adopted Robert MacDonald's methods, see him on youtube. I've already made and attached new straps. I need some MacKenzie modern scrap for new buckle tabs. Thankfully, the kilt and jacket pretty much fit, so no extensive alterations are needed.
My outfit is day wear, and I'm acquiring some things for evening wear. I bought a vintage Montrose doublet, and an inexpensive rabbit fur sporran. Will need a lace Jabot and appropriate hose.
I'm interested in all aspects of tailoring and maintenance of highland dress, as well as dress etiquette and protocol.
I'm pleased to have found this forum and to make your acquaintance.
