Here's a very nice Made In Scotland stamped Evening sporran for a tad over $50 including shipping. It's seal.

I know this is out of my usual price range but it's a beautiful "Prince Charlie" style Evening sporran, apparently in great condition, stamped Made In Scotland, for around $100 including shipping. It's seal.

A very nice Forsyth day sporran - although the price is escalating with some early bidding:

That's a beautiful sporran Tomo, I'll have to look through my old catalogues and see if I see that style. Doesn't look familiar to me offhand.
EDIT: This Forsyth catalogue does show their method of creating raised shapes on the sporran flaps, but not that particular shape is shown.
Here's an interesting sporran, doesn't appear to be from one of the familiar major makers but seems high quality.
For example there's tooling all around the front, which I don't see much nowadays.
At three pounds!
BTW the dimensions given are 20cm high and 18cm wide. The leather sporran I have to hand (Margaret Morrison) is 22cm high and 17cm wide, for comparison.

I found this on fleabay. I am resisting the overwhelming urge to tell the seller that his head is full of rocks and his posting is just an wrapped pasture present. Or maybe more diplomatically tell him that is not a sporran.

If I'm correct, here's a W.E. Scott "semi-dress" daywear sporran for under $100.00 shipped to the USA. If this were brown instead of black leather, I think I would have jumped on it.

Though it doesn't mention the species of the fur facing, that looks like sealskin, and if so it will be confiscated by customs coming across the water, unless it has some pre-CITES documentation...

Here are two absurdly inexpensive traditional leather Day sporrans, appear in good condition. The first one has the typical gold oval Made In Scotland Real Leather stamp. The seller of the second one doesn't show the reverse.
For you in the UK, no USA shipping.

By the way the first one points out how dark brown sporrans can be.
I've found no catalogues listing black leather Day sporrans until around the 1970s, though the brown ones can be quite dark.

Thank you so much for this extensive tutorial on finding a quality sporran for a reasonable price without running afoul of the law! Before reading this thread, I had almost purchased a beautiful sporran from Ministry of Tartan (which has wonderful items for sale) that is almost certainly made of sealskin and could have been confiscated upon arrival in the US.
I will be a much better educated consumer now. Many thanks, OC Richard!
