    Mixing Traditional and Contemporary Gear

Just got my RKilt sporran straps in (thanks Robert!)

Hooked them up to my Freelander sporrans.

Was wearing my UK black workman's today so strapped on the Freelander sporran to see what it looks like.

I was very plesantly surprised how good the black Freelander Sporran looks with the Black UK workman's kilt.

Sorry, no pics yet, guessing black on black will be hard to show in a pic but it sure looks good in a mirror.

    Easy Ham, breathe....breathe....

Hey, I wear a green "Freelander" sporran with the Irish National Tartan because it doesn't detract from the tartan. I like that thought!

I wear a custom-made brown Celtic sporran with my caramel UtiliKilt, because it doesn't draw attention.

    Obviously, I don't think there's any problem!

Oh, I am breathing alright, Ron!

I have no problems with the mixing of Traditional and Contemporary gear at all, just as long as it works for you and has some practical purpose.

However, (and this is not to be taken personally) I cannot for the life of me see the point of wearing sporrans with Utilikilts - most of which are bristling with the most marvellous, capacious pockets.

I know full well that we have been down this road before, but I had, just HAD to throw in a comment - besides, I am only just a few posts short of my 1,000th and another will help me on the way!!

Seriously though, I know that some guys feel that the presence of a sporran indicates to the world that under the sporran there is a kilt. I cannot go along with that: a sporran does not a kilt make! I mean, if you are (Heaven forbid) wearing jeans, your pockets are crammed full but you require more pocket space so you put on a sporran (a sporran is just a pocket), the jeans do not suddenly become a kilt as a result!

If you are still with me, thank Goodness! I believe I have just lost myself in the foregoing, but I know what I am trying to say.

    Thanks Ham,

I get it. Mixing was just an accidental thing that looked good. I'd guess it was because the UK Workmans is already so "busy" that adding the Freelander sporran with the antler tips worked so well.

Taking Kate on the UK board's suggestion I'd already added some stuff to the UK. Found a large carabineer(?) type heartshape key ring and another peace sign one that I linked and hung from the keyring dealy (peace and love).

Having fun...makes this old man feel young again...

I have often wondered what to do with that thingy on the front since my key ring is too big to fit there. Thanks for the idea. Now to start looking around.
