Just watched the New Year special of this TV show, which featured judge Patrick Grant in a fine example of understated Highland day wear - presumably bespoke, given his background. Clip available here, will hopefully work if you're not in the UK even if you can't stream the whole show.

That would be because he probably got a severe ear bashing a couple of series back.
When he definitely wasn't dressed correctly, kilt below his knees, saxon jacket without the cutaway for the sporran. He looked decidedly uncomfortable wearing it at that time.

A ‘reality TV’ program where contestants compete at making some sewing projects. Grant, I think, owns a Savile Row tailoring business (although, I believe his background is engineering). Somewhere I think I heard him say he has had the same kilt since he was 11.

Apologies, the BBC can be a bit tricky if you're not in the UK. It's a show where amateur clothing makers compete in a series of challenges - a bit like Bake Off for tailors and dressmakers. Patrick Grant is a Scottish businessman (Director of a bespoke tailors in Saville Row and other clothing and textiles companies) who is one of the judges. The New Year special has celebrities competing and Patrick wears a kilt. He looked dapper this year - his tartan flashes might annoy the hard liners

but he looked sharp and comfortable. I'll try for a low-res screen grab...

I was thinking of Sir Patrick Grant, the fine piper who took over Grainger & Campbell around 1980 if I recall correctly.

He's always nicely turned out as one might expect.

I find the program really annoying - very basic dressmaking skills are the usual standard and you hardly ever see anyone checking a measurement or using stay stitching. They make some really dreadful errors and some quite ghastly garments.
