Review of a Highland Revival Waistcoat
I have been reviewing this fabulous waistcoat said to have belonged to Andrew Lumsden, Prince Charles Edward’s Private Secretary in Rome following the ’45. The Highland Revival style means that if it was his, it must have been made towards the end of his life, he died in 1801.
Deconstructing the various pieces and aligning them to the sett is tricky. The Prince's Own / Lumsden is a complex pattern but, other than a couple of small rogue pieces from the lapels, the rest can just about be fitted into a full repeat. It is a great example of the pattern cutter's skills.
