Jock, I know I will not change your mind here, but I will endeavour to educate. The 4 yard box pleat is an older style than the 8 yard knife pleat. This style was almost completely relegated to history but was resurrected by Bob Martin and has enjoyed a bit of a resurgence of late, especially in climates typically warmer than the Highlands of Scotland. So for me they do feel different than the aforementioned 8 yarder, but they do have their place. I do take issue with being compared to a 1950's School Girl, but I also realize that was not your intent.
In all honesty most people simply will not notice a difference, if they do they do not voice an opinion on the box pleat, most will accept it as being a kilt, which is exactly what it is.

Thank you Glen, I am aware of the box pleated kilt history. As to the school girl skirt aspect, well at the age I was, it depended on the shape of the person wearing it that I was more interested in! I will say no more!

As a frequent wearer of box-pleated kilts, I do not know one person who has ever noticed anything other than ... it's a kilt. To those who have expressed interest, I have explained the difference between knife-pleats and box-pleats but despite their interest, it didn't seem to matter in the slightest.

More on box pleats
Hopefully this will solve the box pleat diversion and bring us back to Kilted Fridays Adventures...
Here is a thread on XMTS that talks about box pleats, for your reading pleasure...http://www.xmarksthescot.com/forum/f...-rabble-74467/
Also, here are two videos from USA Kilts that goes over the different types of pleats...

Hello summer! Down here in rural western Massachusetts, the summer temperatures have hit us quickly. I appreciate your contribution as it clearly shows that it's possible to wear a traditional kilt in hot weather neatly.
Regards.

Thanks, I have broken out the 4 yard box pleated kilts as well, always a sign that summer is here.

Indeed, I'm sad to put away my other kilts but dressing for the occasion/weather is the most important! I'm getting a good use of my own 4-yard box-pleated kilts lately too.

As we've moved to online learning for the rest of the year given case numbers, I've been kilted while teaching from home. Yesterday I started with a jumper but the sun broke through the fog just before this picture and the jumper didn't last long after that.
