Has anyone ever seen a paten leather kilt belt.

I would write to McRostie and ask them to make one—they can probably get patent leather. They’ve been able to accommodate most of my requests over the years.

Patent Leather, invented in the 19th century, is actual leather which has been coated with a sort of varnish to make it shiny.

Not to be confused with artificial leathers such as vinyl.
In modern times the British Army replaced their Full Dress black and white leather belts, pouches, bayonet frogs, etc with items made from thick vinyl which I see called PVC sometimes.
I much prefer actual leather.

PolyVINYL chloride. I can't think of any other commonly used vinyl-based polymer - vinyl is pretty much synonymous with PVC.
