Casual Kilt Outfit

I thought of this thread yesterday, when I drove to a cemetery to pipe at a funeral.

I got there well before everyone else, to "get some air in the pipes" and let the them acclimate.

It dawned on me that I had arrived in a "casual kilt outfit" in shirtsleeves, rolled up sleeves, with a bucket hat and sunglasses due to the strong sun.

The bucket hat and sunglasses came off, the sleeves got rolled down, the kilt jacket and bonnet went on, and voila I was in smart traditional attire to begin piping.

Happened again the next day, yesterday.

At 9am I arrived at Pipe Band rehearsal in kilt, hose, shoes, sporran, shirtsleeves, sunglasses, and bucket hat.

At noon we all met at a restaurant to celebrate a band-mate's birthday. To be a bit more smart I left the hat and sunglasses in the car and put on a waistcoat.

At 4pm I was adding tie, jacket, and bonnet and began piping at a memorial service.

Not to change the subject, but what kind of truck is that? I've never seen the like here in the U.S.

Its a Mitsubishi, Model L200. They are quite common in the UK. With optional 2WD/4WD(change on the move). Sad to say many Landrover owners have changed from the "bone shaker" to a lot more comfort, good ground clearance, first rate cross country ability, reliability and better fuel consumption that the L200 has to offer. I am also happy to say that a 1000 mile roundtrip journey that I take a couple of times a year is a realistic option with this comfortable machine.

As a truck-loving American Southerner I'm quite pleased that this thread has turned to discussing 4WD vehicles. I've got two Chevrolet full-size trucks, a 2003 Z71 and 1992 3/4 ton Silverado and would gladly add more to the stable if my wife would let me, lol.

Ummm, its not for me to say, but generally speaking the occasional brief diversion from the general topic of kilts and its assorted attire is usually tolerated with good humour-------provided website rules are observed------- but its best to keep even brief "diversions" off topic to a reasonable and short limit. Otherwise a gentle but firm comment from a moderator will be on the way. Just saying.

In all seriousness, thanks for the kind word Jock. One of the very pleasant things about this forum is that it doesn't run off in all directions and allow people to display their crazy opinions on crazy topics.

On a note to the original topic, I'm considering adding another kilt as I'd really like some red in the wardrobe. I rather like the American Legacy tartan, and as a universal it allows me to put some different color in my outfits while still staying true to the connections of the tartan. I've always been a bit of a clothes horse and this kilt wearing business is unfortunately giving me all kinds of different directions to fill my closet with.
