    Could be...

But you could watch this, too -

    https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/115250826...Condition=3000

It has some age (proper vintage) and the nice bar-and-ring linked cantle reinforcing.

Now that's a sporran with more than a few miles on it and many more left in it. I love how supple the leather looks. Even though brown is more my style, I'm wondering if they'd consider shipping internationally. The listing doesn't mention it.

The seller has it listed for shipping within the UK, and lists all the countries they will not send to - the USA is not included, but postage details say international shipping is not available.

It would be worth asking, as it would be a shame to miss out on this.

This sporran looks very much like the sporran Prince Charles wears - perhaps by the same maker..

    Just a thought, J.

If you were really keen, I could bid for you and have it sent to me here in Scotland (as we're still in the UK at the moment) and I could send it on to you.

PM me if you think that could work.

JPS, if you are keen to buy a MOD Culloden sporran, you could try sending Nathan, who is a member here, a PM. He may have one available.

That black Hunting sporran is so interesting!

If it's as old as it looks it would be the earliest black leather Day Dress sporran I've seen.

None of the catalogues I have, up through the 1960s, mention or illustrate black leather sporrans, neither do they appear in any photos I'm aware of prior to the 1970s.

But you never know! At any time a bespoke black leather sporran could have been made, though for what purpose I can't imagine. (If the sporran is vintage it was made pre-Kilt Hire and before there was such a thing as "semi-dress" sporrans.)

Just yesterday a piper friend told me how he had just died his vintage brown leather Hunting sporran black, and how perfectly the job came out. I was inwardly horrified that somebody would take a nice vintage sporran and turn it into a post-1970s Kilt Hire sporran.

It sold for £129.66 - possibly a bargain, considering its rarity and vintage. New-made replicas from House of Labhran retail for £345.00.

Was anyone on this forum the winning bidder? It would be interesting to hear your comments when it arrives.

There was also this on eBay recently -

    https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Antique-1...p2047675.l2557

    - that has now sold for a never-let-on-to-the-wife price of £781.00.

Did that go to anyone here..?

This one went for $110 - but I wasn't tempted to bid with the hugely inflated postage costs.

Another one that went a little more a few days ago:

I'm surprised what prices those are going for.

I picked up a lot of 3 on Ebay a few years back for under $100.

I sent two of them to two different sporran makers for new bags, the third I put up on Ebay.

It only sold for around $40.

Anyhow here's a lovely leather & sealskin sporran for an extremely low price. "May not ship to the USA" probably due to the seal. I've known Americans to take chances on seal sporrans from the UK or Canada and they've come through without issues.

This sporran with the typical gold oval Made In Scotland Real Leather stamp is said to be seal but I'm pretty sure it's bovine or pony, which tended to be used by W E Scott Edinburgh as a sort of imitation seal for sporrans made for export to the USA.
