Howdy neighbor and welcome! I'm not far from you, over in the Hikes Point area.
As a past member of the Louisville Pipe Band, I've worn the band kilt (a 13 oz wool kilt in Henderson Ancient) in the heat of summer and it was fine, except for the real scorcher days (90+F, high humidity & full sun). On those days, even a little 'ventilation' helps, though.
As Father Bill noted, the warmest part was where the kilt made contact with my body (as it would be with any other garment). Perspiration galore. Let the kilt lay flat on the spare bed, inside up, and it was fine the next day.
I also have a personal kilt in Scott Green Modern (wool), and one in the Law Enforcement Memorial tartan (PV), both from USA Kilts in 16 oz. I haven't worn them in really hot weather yet, but I imagine they'd be OK as well.
