I was interested in his view of the text changes between the CM and VS. What struck me during the talk was the fact that the CM pre-dated the early stories and poems Dr Buchanan identified from the 1830s.I wondered if the Brothers started with tartan as part of their Scottification as it was easier to pass off artistic material as authentic rather than prose or other literally output?
We discussed the Brothers’ Gaelic teacher and a connection with the Highland Society of London which I am pursuing. Also, the fact that we’d separately tracked down the Cromarty Ms. Neither of us has seen it but I am making plans to examine it later this year and look forward to publishing more in due course.
