The BBC on tartan in the 21st century

A very interesting article on modern tartan design inspirations. Some of the tartans mentioned are for some very good causes, although I'm not sure about the actual designs.

It’s a shame that they did not get the facts right with the Russian Convoy tartan. Perhaps it was a misprint? But the Royal Navy flag is the White Ensign NOT the Red Ensign of the Merchant Marine. Incredibly brave men sailed under both flags, but I can bet my last halfpenny that they knew the colour of “ their” flag that they were sailing under! My father would be turning in his grave if he saw that!

Not just a shame - sloppy journalism as this is lifted from the The Scottish Register of Tartans:

"Brightening the hopes of many thousands of those Arctic mariners however, was the red in the White Ensign of the escorting Royal Naval vessels; the red of the merchantmen's own flag, the Red Duster, and the red in the Russian national flag."
