Just curious guys, how about camping? Is it available nearby? I am again wanting to get back to the things I used to do and enjoy before life got in my way.

I still am uncertain as to the date of the wedding of my niece. On the whole I would rather be in Vancouver with you guys than Jamaica, but it is my niece.

Hostels.
In a kilt, the hostel kids will think you're cool even if you're ridiculously old.

But stick with Hostelling International, so long as you're in Vancouver.

I know there are some students on the forum, so I thought I'd post this link for student discounted flights. I'm not sure if it's just a US thing, but it might help someone find some cheaper transportation.

I'm not sure if I'll be able to go at this point, but Hank, I'd be up for carpooling from Seattle to Vancouver. I thought riding the ferry would be kind of fun, until I looked at the prices. Yow!

Just another question, how far is Vancouver from Port Angeles, WA? Time wise, I know that it would be a long way around the sound.

Pt. Angeles to Vancouver by car around the long way will take you the better part of a day. It would almost be faster and cheaper to take the ferry to Victoria, then the ferry to Vancouver.
You could do the walk-on in Pt. Angeles, walk two blocks to the bus station and go downtown to downtown. It's a nice, comfortable, trip.

As far as getting from Seattle to Vancouver. It is possible I will be available to take two or three. I may have a show south of Seattle and will be returning to Vcitoria via the Gathering. I'll keep you posted.

Still haven't stayed in a Hostelling International hostel that I liked. It seems many of them have curfews and way to many rules. I always found the independant hostels to be more my taste (especially in the UK), but yes you are right, hostels can be a ton of fun.

We do have several great (and not so great ) hostels in the city. I will be looking into them, and will let you all know what I can find. Having said that , the Jericho Hostel (and HI hostel) is apparently one of Vancouver's best. It's right downtown, and near the beach. Phil: Different hostels have different rules, but the simple answer is no, it is not necessary to be a student to stay at a hostel.

Colin: I have no particular preference for hostel chains/independents, but I'm just stating from experience that HI is a reliably clean place in Vancouver. I haven't been to any hostel in north america that had any curfew or ridiculous rules. Wash your own dishes seems to be the extent of them. I hear things are different in europe, but I've sadly never been. Soon, though, I hope.
