Pipe Band dress predictions realised
In January 2020 I posted my predictions of concerning the future of Pipe Band dress.
http://www.xmarksthescot.com/forum/f...-decade-96208/
Who knew then that by March all the Pipe Band competitions would go into suspended animation for two years.
Last weekend our band played in its first contest since Covid hit, and it was interesting to see that some of my predictions were happening.
Around half the bands had (finally!) gone away from the ubiquitous black Barathea waistcoats with silver buttons, going to tweeds of various colours. Nearly all the bands had switched from black hose to lighter tones of grey or blue.
I had predicted that Balmorals would become popular for bands again, but alas all the bands were still wearing the omnipresent black Glengarries. (However most of the solo pipers in competition were wearing Balmorals.)
I didn't see any band switch to earth-toned tartans but as I said a Band Set of kilts is an extremely expensive thing, and bands switch accessories far more often than the tartan of their kilts.
Then just now I saw this! A band fully embracing all of the changes I had talked about, even down to the Ghillies.
