For one thing, quality hose aren't cheap. A neutral makes sense for someone who wants to save a bit of $$$, perhaps.

Agreed on hose not being cheap (however learning to knit is cheap and then you can make a fine pair of hose for the cost of the wool).

For neutral, I'd say that lovat green or blue, oatmeal or bsion would serve the same purpose but be more interesting than white or black.

I've mentioned this elsewhere, but as a color-deficient person I usually try to play it as safe as possible if I'm trying new combos ;). I don't even know what "bison" is, other than tasty.

"Bison" is a shade of tan.

I would call it a really dark tan or a medium brown. It's a wonderful earth tone colour that seems to go with anything.

I was pretty sure those hose are bison, but it's been about ten years since I purchased them. So it's possible that my memory is wrong.

Computer screens and eyes often have different ideas about color, and humans vary surprisingly in their perceptions of the same color. Holding my bison hose up to my
screen, my hose are definitely darker than the Horse and Hoof link photo, and the "in the wild" photo looks slightly darker than mine. I do have a darker brown pair as well,
but don't recall the HoC labeling of that color. I think Tobus is correct. Different dye lots? Just the computer?

This thread reminds me of a trend some years back where young men were wearing their blue jeans backwards, with the fly to the rear. This trend was short-lived, no doubt due to the obvious impracticality. In the end, it is most often what works, what makes sense, that stands the test of time. The "look at me, I'm different," trends all fade only to come back twenty years later and fade again, even faster.

Through my non artistic and somewhat aged eyes, green is green, red is red , blue is blue, black is black, white is white and so on. I can even differentiate between assorted shades of colour, but i cannot for the life of me get the hang of these more artistic terminologies such as "bison", " teal" and so on.
