I know what you mean. To my eye the white bisecting the blue doesn't work and makes the pattern still look too busy. The Royal Stewart base is already a complex pattern and adding more to it can be tricky not to unbalance it.
Changing the shades helps. Here it is in shades closer to Wilsons'.

At risk of going off down a rabbit-hole. Here is a simplified variation with the white removed and some of the proportions tweaked.
