Okay. That's a very different question.

We go more often to upscale places. No bars. No BBQs. Often, formal evenings where the hosts and guests are in black tie or at least a lounge suit, rarely a jacket and slacks never a jumper. Sometimes the host is in white tie. Most of the ladies wear skirts, several of them floor length, but a few wear upscale pant suits.

Yes, my wife often wears dresses and skirts to these, but I rarely wear my kilts as they would be somewhat out of place, so it's not related to that. It's just a matter of fitting in. Wherever we are.

Were we in a casual setting, I have no idea what she might wear.

I am familiar with quite a few of the different meanings of the same words between the UK and North America, this is a new one to add into the "be careful of that" category...

My wife and I rarely attend formal events, and when we have I'm rarely in Highland Dress.

I can probably count on the fingers of one hand the number of times, in our 35 years of marriage, that we've attended a do with me in Highland Dress.

I believe all have been Scottish-themed concerts. My wife wore dresses of suitable formality. I wore Evening Dress.

As she should. My question is what DOES she wear?

If we are just going out for a casual dinner and or kilt night she wears jeans and a blouse typically.
If it is a more formal even, she would wear a skirt and blouse.

The missus dresses primarily based on her mood... and clothes that don't have paint on them (she is an artist).
She does say she feels like she needs to step it up a bit since I now where kilts full time... generally wears leggings or sun dresses for local errands. Dress when we go out to pub or out wth friends. Fancier dress when we go to an Art Opening...

We have not been to any black tie events in decades, just not our thing.

we hike a trail near here almost every weekend (it was closed last weekend due to winter conditions, snow, black ice, cold as crap) here are some samples from the last couple of months, a christmas picture, a viking festival and at our 40th wedding anniversary which still wasn't formal.







We haven't been to any formal events of late but even then I am usually singing at them so we aren't really together. Hope it helps
