New Kilt

This 13 ounce 5 yard Gordon kilt arrived yesterday from USA Kilts. Nicely pleated to the line, fits perfect.

I'm wearing a linen blazer that's been altered to be a kilt jacket.

Looks good! Most jacket conversions you can tell but not your's, it looks like it was always a kilt jacket. Did a tailor do it for you?

I have a similar kilt in a different tartan (Celtic Nations) from USA Kilts. Rocky and crew produce an awesome product.

The jacket was profesionally altered. I usually wear a 44R, but got it in 44S

Most jacket conversions you can tell but not yours, it looks like it was always a kilt jacket.

The biggest issues usually are the placement of the 2nd buttonhole and the placement of the pockets.

If those aren't right you'll have to sew shut the 2nd buttonhole and sew shut the pockets, which will be visible up close.

(Well I suppose the fabric can be re-woven but that's often more than the jacket is worth.)

If you start out with a one-button jacket you don't have to worry about the 2nd buttonhole, but still the button stance is generally too low.

About the pockets, most suit jacket pockets are too low and too far to the front. It's not common but sometimes you can find suit jackets with the pockets exceptionally high and to the side.

Or, start out with a jacket that has patch pockets which sometimes can be cleanly removed.

I did one, it's tough to get it looking exactly like a traditional kilt jacket.
