Traditional wool kilt with pockets

I knew Mr. Ashton *used* to make exactly what I'm looking for.

I didn't expect to lure him out of retirement But I was hoping for some pointers.

Someone mentioned USAKilts, but in my original post I wrote they already turned me down.

Not great. Work has been crazy, so I haven't had much free time lately. I ordered a couple "Scottish" "100% wool" tartans from UTKilts, but they turned out to be Pakistani synthetic, so I had to return them. https://www.xmarksthescot.com/forum/...-woolen-99044/

Lochcarron is running a sale right now, so maybe I'll set aside some time and place an order.

I found some kilt makers that will add pockets. Since Mr. Ashton received such an unfair reprisal for his innovation, I'm hesitant to list them here. One was in Canada and 2 were in Scotland. I still await a reply from one more in America.

American National is a stock tartan, but Texas Bluebonnet is a custom weave.

Anybody want to split a custom weave ? 1500 BP for 3 kilts worth of material (yes - cost of cloth alone per one quote), so I need 2 volunteers.

Fascinating - your link works, but there's no picture of the dark version, nor can I find that tartan via any of the web sites built in search features, nor on any of its text listing of available tartans.

I just spoke to them - found the phone # after posting this.

There's a price on the web site at your link, but they won't sell the wool fabric. They will only sell finished kilts from it. The guy who answered the phone was incredibly defensive of staying "traditional". He was far more interested in keeping his tartan to himself rather than letting pockets defile it, than making a profit from the sale.

Opinions on a forum are free, but this guy put his own $$$ at stake.

I don't understand it, but I admire his resolve.

It's a thing... kilt gatekeepers. While I'm not one to gatekeep, I do like a good traditional kilt over the many utility kilt variants out there. However, even a single pocket added to the right-hand side could be easily hidden when done well. I understand the need for pockets while wearing a kilt. Of my sporran collection, none of them hold enough to go without some additional pocket options like that of a jacket or waistcoat... but sometimes it's just too damn hot out. One thing I've done is added a belt pouch just large enough to hold my cell phone. The size of the pouch blends in unless you see the profile sticking out.

Agreed, the pastel look IMHO is more suited to a Highland Dance outfit than for a man's kilt.
