I think it's important to understand that being a curmudgeon and being kind aren't at opposites with each other.
A curmudgeon might express their kindness in more understated ways, such as through dry humor in forum posts, or sharing kilt making techniques with a random person on the Internet who is pleading for guidance.

P.S. The dark version looks better for a kilt IMHO... more masculine.
    Thank you so much !!

Fascinating - your link works, but there's no picture of the dark version, nor can I find that tartan via any of the web sites built in search features, nor on any of its text listing of available tartans.

How did you find it ?

I just spoke to them - found the phone # after posting this.

There's a price on the web site at your link, but they won't sell the wool fabric. They will only sell finished kilts from it. The guy who answered the phone was incredibly defensive of staying "traditional". He was far more interested in keeping his tartan to himself rather than letting pockets defile it, than making a profit from the sale.

Opinions on a forum are free, but this guy put his own $$$ at stake.

I don't understand it, but I admire his resolve.

It's a thing... kilt gatekeepers. While I'm not one to gatekeep, I do like a good traditional kilt over the many utility kilt variants out there. However, even a single pocket added to the right-hand side could be easily hidden when done well. I understand the need for pockets while wearing a kilt. Of my sporran collection, none of them hold enough to go without some additional pocket options like that of a jacket or waistcoat... but sometimes it's just too damn hot out. One thing I've done is added a belt pouch just large enough to hold my cell phone. The size of the pouch blends in unless you see the profile sticking out.

I was lucky enough to get one of Steve's last kilt. I love the pockets as I can put my pipe and lighter in the left side, bag of tobacco in the right side, and my billfold in the one under the apron. I get no bulges showing anywhere except my belly.

If someone finds anyone else that can make them the same way let me know, I may get one in Army tartan.

Agreed, the pastel look IMHO is more suited to a Highland Dance outfit than for a man's kilt.

Same with the Nevada state tartan https://www.reviewjournal.com/news/p...lture-3274303/

I feel this way about Bell of the Borders. As closely as I feel connected to the name, I can't see myself wearing a kilt in the tartan.

I am not a fan of pockets on a kilt, but without a jacket storage space is a bit limited. A wallet, phone and keys just about fills a sporran.

Super Machine bespoke kilt ordered from Houston's, just outside of Glascow.

    https://www.kiltmakers.com/us/kilt/?...n-weight=29712

    Including 2 hidden pockets

Houston's reports its a popular option.

Unfortunately the last bit of fabric was sold just before mine, so I have to wait for it to be woven again. ETA is May.

PS - I reported this with their approval
