Same thing happened with 5.11's "tactical" kilt. In fact, the first advert went out on April 1st.

To my recollection there were only a couple of prototypes for the advert. Then the orders came rolling in.

It appears that now the "commando kilt" is part of their regular offering.

5.11 calling their kilts 'tactical' was backed up with videos of would-be 'commandos'. And yes, having first posted the advert on 1 April, for years they only made a small batch and sold them in May.
Actually I like those 5.11 kilts for everyday wear (I do wear kilts 365/365) and have around a dozen of them altogether. But they have now discontinued them, despite the fact that they sold out every spring and there is clearly unsatisfied demand.

I can cope with the piper in the Buchanan, but the others! I fear some kind of a colour perception issue.

That Buchanan ancient is pretty cool. But, alas, no kilt in that for me.

Totally offtopic but Marton Mills has a really nice "fashion tartan" called Copper Haze that's clearly based on a version of the symmetrical Buchanan sett, both tartans are really nice. (Marton Mills made one of the pair of amber stripes green, along with some minor changes.)
