I'm right there with you about looking out for the small shops. Also with the long wait on UK and the snaps having problems pulling loose I think I've whitled UK out.

I'm glad you mentioned the difference in the edge treatment as those are the finishing touches I feel make a huge difference.

The bad news is that while kicking around the $100+ options I've begun to wonder about just going with the SportKilt option for $60 while I test drive the Kilt choice. I'm honestly surprised at how difficult the choice is. Which one to invest in is truly a harder choice than whether to wear a kilt at all.

I'll post back as I prepare to pull the trigger and let everyone know how it goes. The other bad part is I'm already jonesing and haven't even placed an order yet.

One last caviat though. This will be mainly an outdoor garment (yard work, camping, hiking, hanging round the house...). I'm tempted by the color versatility of the plain solid color twills (Kahki, Forest or Putty kilt with just about any other shirt color) but also think I might be better off just going with the Forest MARPAT. I spent many years ironing camies so a little pressing doesn't bother me.
