Being a "gentleman of substance", many have stated putting the sporran strap/ chain above the buckles on the kilt to help reduce the tendency of the sporran strap / chain to underline (and emphasize) the gut... what if the sporran strap supprt loops were moved forward, so the chain /strap did not have such a long length to sag?

That would only work if the kilt had the loops and many, especially handmade ones, do not.
