RE: Hiker's Kilt
Thanks all for the warm welcome. Andrew, the D-ring on the hips was a big factor in staying with the traditional style. The rings for that (traditional style) are just low enough that my pack belt doesn't dig in. In talking to Michael at the festival he had mentioned that that was one of the main feedback items he had gotten and was looking at that for a modification. As far as the Tartan goes, I got the pattern number for my wife and have looked at fabric sources because my wife has offered to try her hand at making one for me. Has to be the poly-vis, though since she's allergic to wool. Funny story on kilts too. My daughter and her fiance were making friends and family rounds Christmas morning and he wore his kilt that his mother bought for him at the Renn Faire this past year. One friend ask, "Doesn't she have some brothers? They'll beat you up if they see you in that." She giggled and said, "I doubt that since my uncle, dad and brother all have their own and were in on the tartan approval process." I think we should visit them en mass and kilted. Needless to say, there are no issues in my family with kilts.
