I've made my first pair of flashes!!
Well...I've done it. Pics are in my personal gallery. I would appreciate any and all critisism, positive and negative. This was the first time I've EVER sewn, and I must admit I'm happy with the results. I decided to add Velcro to each end so that the garter would be adjustable. Thanks to all who helped me get this far!

Very neat indeed, Brian!
If I might make one suggestion, however: next time, you might like to form the flashes so that they loop around the elastic. In other words, make the flashes so that they can be slid along the elastic.
With them stitched on, as you have done, you might find that the stitching causes a problem, or quickly comes undone, with the flexing of the elastic.
Alternatively, stitch the flashes across the elastic with a single row, rather than along it.
Just a thought!

Dude! Nice rippled flashes at that!
For a first-timer, you have the touch! As time goes by and you continue to "play" with designs, it will be interesting to see what you come up with. (You know you can't stop with one pair).
You've got the flashes. Freelander has the sporrans. Who's gonna start making belts?
Perhaps XMarks could open-up a sectional store for members to post their goods in a "Flea Market" type area? Just a thought.

I have no problem with our members posting links in the For Sale section to a website where they might sell their gear.

Thanks everyone. I would like to make some more so that I can practice making straight seams, and the cuts at the ends (where the triangle is) is a real bugger to get even. I was thinking the other day that it would be nice to have some type of die that I could just punch with a hammer, and in on nice cut, both sides would be sliced easily and evenly. Yeah, maybe someday. Since I don't have my kilt yet, I think I'm going to wait until I do have it in order to see what other colors compliment the Gunn Tartan (I'm still open to suggestions).
Hamish...I like your point about the stretching elastic, but I'm wondering if they still might be ok, since the seam will hopefully prevent the elastic from stretching. I guess time will tell on that one. I will probably make another pair the way you suggested, just to see how they turn out.
Thanks again everyone.

If I lose my job, and my wife gets one in New York, I may have to start making kilts to help pay the rent during the transition period!!!
So I will definitely post here to hock my wares......
