Apron question
I've noticed that the fabric on my kilt is starting to get a bit fuzzy underneath the area where the sporran hangs. I took the hooks off the sporran chain and replaced them with some smooth light nylon string, but the fuzzing continues to develop. It's not bad yet, but I've only worn the thing four times, and three complete days.
Any thoughts?
BTW, it's a
Stillwater kilt, and the material is acrylic.

It's more common than you think. I depilled my Stillwater once already.

From the Tide.com website:
Pilling refers to those little fuzz balls that collect on the surface of many woven and knit fabrics. It occurs when loose fiber ends escape from their yarn or thread twist. As clothes experience abrasion through normal wear and the agitation of the washing and drying cycles, these loose ends get bound together. Due to the strength of most fabric fibers, these pills are unable to break away from the garment and collect on the surface of your clothes.
Natural fibres break off more easily than synthetic fibres, so the synthetics show more pilling even though all fabrics do it.

Interesting. I mean, I know my old, (old) Patagonia fleece jacket pilled like crazy. I notice that the newer fleece isn't nearly as bad as the old stuff. Hmmm. maybe I'll need one 'o them depilling razors.
maybe I need a WOOL kilt! BTW, Rigged, we gotta get together, maybe do a kilt night in Mountain View at that Pub on Castro Street.
Thanks for the link to the archived post, Raphael.

StillWater Kilts, and the Poly-Viscose kilts will both need a "shave" every once in a while... expecially with washing. WalMart has a little shaver in the laundry section for about $5. It's adequate for the job. Make sure to get the C battery too.

My wife has one of those sweater shavers. The thing works great on my poly/rayon kilt. Very easy to use and safe for the kilt.

I was wondering if anyone has anything to say about Steves Polyester-Cotton kilts and pilling?
