It's A Royal Stewart Day
Yessir,
We're in the dead of winter here in the land of the Bluegrass. It's been an up and down winter so far in our neck of the woods. We've had literally less than 1" of accumulation so far ( that was a jinx, wasn't it ) and temps tomorrow are to be in the mid 60's. Can't say I'm at all sorry. Ah, we've had a couple of good frosts but mostly we've had rain. I've a mud path to the cars. The Quadra-trac on my '79 Cherokee is hosed, not that I need it, and gas is cheap ($1.69) tonight. So, it'll be a good day tomorrow.
The Mrs and I are caretakers of about 35 acres. A small amount of land in the greater scheme of things, but a handfull none-the-less. When we bought the farm, so to speak, there wasn't a sprig-of-a-tree on the land. Since then we've planted somewhere around 3,000 trees. And they are doing just fine. Some of the pines are 20' tall now. We have only 30 more acres to plant.
We're part and parcel of the Frog Watch program, http://www.nwf.org/frogwatchUSA/ . We count frogs. Not overly interesting if you find frogs repulsive, but it's a great and romantic time for us. The Mrs. has heard spring peepers in the last several days. I missed them.
Anyway, tomorrow will be a red letter day as I wear the Royal to work. You know, the guys I work with... they just don't get it. Ah well, it'll come to them..... soon enough.
Yep, tomorrow is a Royal Day. Thanks for listening .....

Ambrose,
What a life you lead, calming, relaxing, away from the hubbub of the city, getting to really getting in touch with nature, new trees and frogs. But the best part about it, you get to go kilted!
Glad that you get it, for your co-workers, too bad for them.

awoodfellow,
I've been hearing peepers just south of you in TN, too. A bit early, perhaps, but always a welcome sound.

We won't hear any peepers for a another few months in New England. It is great music but once you hear the peepers you know the black flies will be biting in a few weeks...

Had to add another frog comment...
Last night I heard chorus frogs (sound like when you run your thumb up the teeth on a comb) for the first time this year. Again, great music, but seems a bit early.
