The only thing I don't like about this new Austrian kilt enthusiams is that some people are actually claiming that the kilt was invented in Austria as a part of their marketing, which is patently false.

I address this issue on our District Tartans site. Go to http://www.district-tartans.com and click on "News" and then the article on the Austrian kilts.

I applaud their enthusiasm, and am glad to see so many in the kilt. But let's get our facts straight.

    Aye,
    Matt

i ve posted much before about that topic matthew and i can nothing but agree completely with u.

those Carintians (carintia, district of autria) are claiming that the kilt as well as tartan has its origins in austria, from that celts which lived in austria. i ve just read again, that the oldest piece of tartan in europe had been found there.

even if that s true, that does not make the kilt austrish. for me a shameful way of exageration; not totally untypical for that country.

That is an interesting and somewhat amusing website. Thanks, McNice, for the link.

However, it is a pity that so many of the men in those photos are misguided enough to think they are wearing the kilt - most of those we see seem to have virtually no overlapping aprons ....... perhaps they were SportKilts or "Get Shirty" 'kilts'!!

Also, I found it 'painful' to see some rather good, traditional kilts being desecrated in all that mud and muck. That's no way to treat the kilt!

Nevertheless, everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves which, I suppose, is what really matters.
