One more thing Brian, the Militia on Breed's Hill didn't have any bayonets. They never had a chance once they ran out of powder and ball. They should have fled as soon as they saw that last advance of the Grenadiers, it would have saved many American lives.

    Todd,

Maybe later in the year I can make a small trip to Wilson's Creek. I will expect a personally guided tour and we can toss a coin to see who buys the first round. I'll warn you, I'm a pretty fair Two Beer Civil War Debater First Class. We ought to have fun argueing about old times.

Todd and Brian might be learned, but I'm just an old gun crank and history buff who's rather read a 200 year old newspaper headline than listen today's news.

    James,

That was some great reading! Thanks for sharing. I guess it all boils down to how much we can learn from history.

What dark power did I unleash when I started that one?

I have actually got pictures of 18thC-ce soldiers wearing an ammunition box/pouch in the belly position.

Probably it will be for the best if I do not get carried away with the theory of firepower in the the days of muzzle loading weapons. Well not unless I want to get sacked for perverting this board.

    Cool stuff,

The handy position of putting things near/under the belly can be seen today with uniformed police officers who often carry their extra magazines horizontal on their duty belts, in front, at the belly.

If todays police officers adapted "service" sporrans who knows how much they could free up their often cramped duty belts. Would be a wise place to add some of that ballistic protection too.

Can remember as a kid cop the department insisted we carry revolvers with 6" barrels in a sorta Western style holster strapped to our leg. Couldn't draw the weapon while seated in the squad car without twisting and turning and contorting. Boss cops are kinda slow to adapt sometimes.

Think a sporran with ballistic material to protect the boy parts - and girl parts - is long overdue for cops.

Just say the word, Doc, and I'll give you the "nickel tour"!

    Cheers,
